APC Overnight is a nation-wide parcel company with depots throughout the UK and a national Sortation Hub located in Cannock, Staffordshire. Growing at an average rate of 18% year on year, we pride ourselves on quality and outstanding levels of customer service.

Working on large scale Business Systems technology and legacy databases as well as supporting the systems during their developments and post go live. The DBA will be responsible for the design and ongoing maintenance of the databases liaising with Business Systems, Technical Services and 3rd party suppliers.

Head of IT and Head of Business Systems

You will be expected to complete your duties in a professional manner and to a high level. This will require out of hours working at times as the major operational work takes place overnight at the Hub and the successful candidate will be expected to be flexible and willing to put in the required hours working on large scale Business Systems technology and supporting the systems post go live. This role will be responsible for the design and ongoing maintenance of the databases liaising with Development, Technical Support and 3rd party suppliers.

Skills/requirements:

  • Degree level qualification in an IT relevant course
  • Overall experience as a DBA minimum 5 years
  • Strong Database design and analysis skills
  • Experience in establishing appropriate DBA processes and procedures within the organisation and in conjunction with external suppliers
  • Experience of effective DBA trouble shooting
  • Knowledge of formal Systems Development Methodologies
  • Commercial .NET experience from preferably a Windows development environment
  • Experience of at least .NET Framework 2.0, preferably 3.5+
  • Experience of development within an n-tier architecture for user interface, business, service and data access layers
  • Experience of Web Services (WCF)
  • Extensive experience of MS SQL Server versions up to 2012
  • Some experience of Oracle in a commercial environment
  • Some experience in MYSQL
  • Demonstrable maintenance of skill sets by continuous development and knowledge acquisition in the area of DBA
  • Effective communication skills at all organisational levels

Advantageous requirements

good understanding of a variety of systems including, but not limited to -

  • Exposure to the logistics business sector
  • Experience in other relational database development environments

Main duties:

Full DBA lifecycle activities for APC Databases including, but not limited to:

  • Analysis, scoping and documentation of Database Administration requirements
  • Design of Database solutions to meet business and development requirements
  • Accurate estimation of efforts required to deliver solutions
  • Working with the Technical Services Leader to provision appropriate virtualised server environments
  • Support and maintenance of production Databases
  • Effective communication at all times to all levels of IT in house and external colleagues

As a member of the IT team the following would be expected:

  • Assistance to other team members staff
  • Assistance in the production of meaningful and accurate plans for project delivery
  • Leading small projects where required
  • Be confident and capable of participating in multiple active projects
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism in dealing with APC senior management, customers, and suppliers.
  • And any other relevant duties as the position requires

Other Information:

Major User activity at the Hub takes place overnight and good cover is essential. In contrast the Depots work during the business day as well as the Hub day staff and the IT Department is expected to deal with incidents not managed by our external providers.

The Hub infrastructure is a virtual managed private cloud hosted by the service provider. The service provider provides a 24 x 5.5 technical service desk and technical issues are managed by them.

Working closely with the appropriate business areas this role will: ensure that the IT function supports the ongoing changing operational needs of the business, support the integration of legacy and new systems, and take a lead role in large scale business systems integration projects. Specific duties will include: production of quality integration frameworks conforming to APC standards and the maintenance of APC's data model and data governors, including data availability, confidentiality, security and integrity. You will also assist in the production of plans for project delivery including leading small projects when required.

The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge and experience of IT systems and data architecture in a complex business environment, excellent communication skills and the ability to work on their own initiative. Technical skills required include: experience of .NET framework 2.0/3.5, commercial .NET experience preferably in a Windows development environment as well as data/systems management frameworks.

Due to growth we are looking recruit a Night Security Supervisor. Main duties will involve assisting in the overall management of the security function during the night operation including leading and managing a team of contracted security guards. Use of the Company's CCTV system, assisting in investigations and managing ‘live’ security incidents with the support of the night management team. Maintaining and enforcing a high standard of H & S in keeping with site policies and procedures. Carrying out person and vehicle searches when required and report writing.

The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of the Data protection act, excellent communication, people management and leadership skills. Experience of report writing, a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word and strong analytical skills are required.

Knowledge of the overnight parcel industry would be advantageous.

This is a senior role within the IT department with responsibility for ensuring the delivery of business focused support both internally and to the APC network. You will oversee the day to day management of the service elements of the department. Duties will include: providing 2nd and 3rd line technical support, contributing to the design, development and management of the technical infrastructure and supporting the APC Business Systems. You will also have responsibility for implementing technical security standards in association with external providers and will work with the Business Systems Team planning infrastructure designs that will support current and future systems.

The main skills and requirements for this role are as follows:

Due to our growth, we are currently looking to recruit a Sales & Purchase Ledger Supervisor. Daily tasks will include - the management of a small team including development and team meetings, maintaining customer and supplier databases, ensuring invoices are processed correctly, approving payments and new supplier applications, ensuring query procedures are implemented correctly, proactively undertaking project work such as the improvement of supplier terms and assessment of current processes and controls.
